Asking for date-of-birth

DearCupidDearCupid, posted over a year ago

Hiya

Would welcome any thoughts on this.

I'm thinking of asking for date-of-birth when:

* people sign-up

* people ask a question without registering

When the question is published the site will then display an age-range, e.g.

"A female, age 25-29, asks"

(so no exact year shown -- for privacy reasons)

I think this will be useful - sometimes it's difficult to put a question into context without knowing the user's age.

Any strong views on this?

Andrew

Yes I think it will add value. But how to deal with people who don't want to reveal their age rarge...

- Force them to reveal it, meaning there might be less posts

- Make it optional

- Make one option in the menu "Don't show my age"

I'd suggest introducing it with age shown as a requirement, and watching to see if the number of questions falls off significantly. If after a week or so it seems like a problem, switch to one of the other two options
