Is "dump him/her" some pretty common advice?

UndisclosedUndisclosed, posted over a year ago

I've noticed that "dump him or her" is some pretty common advice and it had me thinking.

Am I alone in this observation? Has anyone else remarked that when a question-asker writes in with a troubling problem, "dump him or her" is suggested more frequently than it would otherwise be in offline social circles when friends share their problems?

They may just be too selfish and lazy people who rarely ever really put themselves into someone else shoes. For them the easiest way to end a problem in a relationship is terminate that relationship. Simple! Like one got a broken leg and cannot bear the pain, the doctor will suggest amputation. Easy and fast, but no help at all!

Though, there's still some situation where breaking up is inevitable or is the best choice.

I think it could be because we're more objective. Unlike friends who might have other motives (friends with the other partner, worried about how it will affect the group, worried they'll get called a bitch if they tell the person to dump their partner, don't want to be stuck with a whiny recently single friend for months etc.).

Sometimes it could just be bad advice though...
