Is there any reason why the search facility on this site is no longer working?

It will load eventually, if you wait a bit. I don't know why it takes so long.

The problem isn't that it takes so long to load. I simply get the message

"Unauthorized access to internal API. Please refer to https://support.google.com/customsearch/answer/4542055"

for any search that I make
