How early should marriage be a subject?

Lennethpanic87, posted over a year ago

I just want people's oppinion on this. I've been with my boy friend for a little over a year and I really want to get married. I'm not pushing it and I'm waiting for him to be ready. Is a year to early to start thinking about marriage? Is it wrong of me to expect him to have at least thought about it by now?

Hi, I guess it depends a bit on your ages and current situations. I would think a year is long enough to know if you are viable as a couple.

You'll get more responses if you post this as a regular question on the main page: www.dearcupid.org/ask

Good luck!

Since there is an 87 in your name, I am going to guess that you are 22 years old. That is the age that I got married the first time. We had been going together for about 2 years. I don't think that we really knew each other properly yet. We were married for over 10 years, some of it good and some of it bad.

My second and current wife and I dated for over 6 years before we decided to marry. We decided to live together 4 years after we started dating and then decided to get married 2 years after that. We felt that we knew each other properly by then. We have been married for 23 years and it has been a good one for both of us. We think it was wise for us to wait that long.

My current wife also dated her first husband for about 3 years before they decided to get married and they really didn't know each other well and what they really wanted by then and it failed because he cheated on her.

I really don't think that 1 year is enough time at all to really know each other properly. I think that many marriages fail because of this or because at least one of the partners is not ready for marriage.
